In-Home Baby Session

It is important in any session to focus on the individual parts that make a family unit. In particular, I am referencing the baby. Family photography is great, but the parents are looking for cute and adorable pictures of their adorable baby. Specifically, ones they can gush over, share with family and friends, and hopefully put up proudly on their walls. No pressure, right?!

Family Photography

Parents are eager to get things started, and we do. After saying our hellos and greetings, we take a tour of your home and areas of interest. The first thing I am looking for is how the lighting is in your home. Secondarily, I’m looking to see which rooms the good lighting happens to be in. Toronto is tricky with closely-built homes, small antique windows, and very traditional closed-off layouts in the majority of the city. New construction and modern homes don’t usually have this issue as most are open-concept with large windows and tall ceilings. Almost always, there is a space that works perfectly. In this case, it was the master bedroom. The living room was a close second, but aside from the small armchair and sofa, it didn’t offer much else. We still utilized the space to shake up the presentation gallery, and the client chose a handful from that set. Therefore, it was a good choice.

Mom and Baby Pictures

Included in our baby session are pairings with each individual parent. It is important to capture the unique relationship each parent has with their child. It has been interesting to watch the dynamics moms and dads have had with their children over the years. Some dads are tough but kind, some dads are silly and goofy, and some are complete nurturers and softies. This special relationship only grows deeper over time, which hopefully, I get to capture too with annual follow-up photos. In particular, I love moms with their babies. I have a special Mommy Project that highlights this bond and relationship.

Dad Baby Milestone Photography

If you want heart-string-pulling photography, look no further than portraits of dads with their babies. Let’s be honest, moms make most of the decisions. We are the neck that turns the head. As decision-makers, we want images that make us happy. Seeing our dads with our babies inherently makes people happy, there is something very primitive and very raw when it comes to this combination. It represents our family from our perspective. Finally, someone sees your family as you do. The moments come fast, I can’t stop paying attention for one second. I only have one chance to capture the unique dynamic that represents the father-child relationship, and it better deliver your vision plus much more.
