In-Home Posed Newborn Photography
In-home posed newborn photography is a great way to document your new baby in an artistic and unique way, incorporating meaningful spaces in your home. No studio in the world will have the same decor as your home, nursery, or vibe. That type of essence can only be documented in a space that represents that for you, your home. Below, I describe my fabulous in-home posed newborn session step-by-step. Hopefully it answers a few questions for you, or inspires you to book your session too. Locations
Living Room
I will often start my sessions with a tour of your home. This helps me draw inspiration and plan out the spaces, poses, accessories, and props to use in each viable space. My time with you is maximized this way, and you get a fabulous collection of images to cherish for a lifetime.
Nursery
I don’t know about you, but I absolutely adored creating and decorating my daughter’s nursery. I know I am not alone in that sentiment and adore capturing the effort and love that goes into creating this space for your baby. Dad in particular was very handy and did the beautiful wainscotting and painting in the nursery, and throughout the house. I love getting creative and honoring your space to the best of my abilities for you to look back on and feel proud. As our children grow, the needs for that room will change. Having in-home photography allows you to document the tiny things to help remember and reminisce in the future. And hey, it looks fabulous too – show it off!
Posed Newborn Portraits
The best place for in-home newborn photos is in the master bedroom. It is typically the largest room, on an elevated floor, and has more lighting. This is not always the case, but typically this is true for most homes. The bed offers a large working surface to attempt posing. Most room designs have a window adjacent to the bed, which is perfect for portrait photography. It is a space that is small enough, that a small heater can comfortably warm the space to a tropical temperature in about an hour. During that warm-up, we focus on everything but the posing.
In-Home Family Portraits
Some of my favorite family portraits are when we are in the comfort of your home. Your personality lives within your walls and they get captured within the photo. When you move, or redecorate, these are the pictures you will cherish.
The grandmother in these photos holding her precious granddaughter is from a village in Africa that makes the baskets hanging on the wall. They have a permanent place in her home to remind her of her mother and the village they come from. The fact that I have grandma sitting in front of her shrine, with her beloved granddaughter, in her daughter’s house, and daughter by her side is the definition of family portrait photography. I strive to capture these multi-generation photos to be as meaningful as possible because our time is not infinite on this earth. We need to nurture our relationships and our connections while we still have them. These photos represent a legacy.
