I used to come here as a child regularly and grew up in the area. This park has always been magical to me. As a child, I would pretend the historical homes were haunted with witches and goblins, that the squirrels and animals could talk to me like Cinderella. My imagination would take me on an adventure, I would be in my own world for hours exploring and pretending. To say that I know every square inch of this park is an understatement. And although not requested directly, the way the lighting hit the trees on this particular day, the vibe I had from Kamande & Chantelle all worked beautifully together to create nothing short of magical portraits for their outdoor maternity session. These portraits remind me of something out of a fairytale story book. A boy who loves a girl and they decided to embark on a pregnancy journey together and bring a new life, new love into this world. This is Chantelle and Kamande’s story.
The Secret To Stunning Outdoor Photography
My biggest weapon in creating stunning outdoor pregnancy photography is first and foremost making the couple comfortable with me. This is easily accomplished with a few minutes of chatting and getting to know them. Cracking a few jokes is always a good idea too, if it suits your personality. Be genuine. Timing is critical. I avoid the times during the day when the sunlight is the harshest. You can find salvation in the shade if you absolutely HAVE TO shoot during the middle of the day (toddlers and babies will often mandate this). Alternatively, you can have your assistant hold the white sun shade to dampen the harshness of the sun’s rays. However, it is ideal to shoot either first thing in the morning before the sun gets too high in the sky. My personal preference is the evening. The summer is my favourite season for more than one reason. The days are loonnggg which means extra time in the afternoon to walk around and get really creative. In summary, being genuine and timing your sessions with the glowy sun will always yield good results.
