She is here! Congratulations to Kimberley and her now complete family of four. What a pleasure it was to have the whole family come back and celebrate this amazing milestone. Big brother is now officially the protector of his little sister, forever and always. Mom and Dad on cloud nine with their healthy, sweet, and adorable children. Life is good. Let’s take a closer look at our newborn session and how we structured it to get the most out of our Bump-to-Baby plan.
Bump to Baby: Family Portraits First
I love to start my newborn sessions with family photography. It sets the mood for the rest of the session and puts everyone at ease. After all, these are the people closest to you. Who doesn’t enjoy a good family snuggle with the newest member of the family? The key to great before and afters are having everyone dress in the same outfits they were wearing in the first session. Take a look at Kimberley’s maternity session here. We used the same whimsical gown to recreate similar images to when she was pregnant. Her son let go of his reservations just long enough to sneak in a kiss for his baby sister. Perfection!
Bump to Baby: Solo Newborn Session Portraits
Once the family photography portion is complete, it is time to focus on the baby. Most toddlers don’t have the patience to sit quietly through this bit, so I have a dedicated playing space in the studio to keep little minds engaged. There is also a TV room for cartoons if the weather is bad, and a lovely school park with a playing structure 2 minute walk down the street. I encourage Dads to take the older siblings on a walk to play outside, or drop them back off at pre-school so Mom and I can focus. The goal is to make sure everyone is happy and to capture stunning photography. Let the juggling act begin.
